Mobile disc jockeys for school dances, parties, events in the NC Triangle

entertainment for all events

On August 18th Al and I DJed on Duke University’s East Campus Quad as students celebrated the end of the first day of freshman orientation. After an information session in the auditorium, they ate sno-cones and listened to us play the latest hip-hop and top 40 jams as well as a few new remixes. I think everyone enjoyed this Tuesday night entertainment.

On Thursday, August 13th we threw the first ever DJ Drago & DJ Dust Endless Summer Dance Party.

We rented out the first floor of the beautiful Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, NC. As you may recall we DJed here for a sweet 16 party at the beginning of the summer. When we decided to throw our own dance party, this immediately came to mind, as it had a great hardwood dance floor, the room was a good size, there was a courtyard for guests to chill outside, and had impressive acoustics. We compared prices and weighed the benefits of other locations, including hotels, conference centers, restaurants, schools, but eventually came back to this location.

With the location decided, we started on promotion about 3-4 weeks in advance of the event. I made a poster (below) and we created an event on Facebook. Tickets were sold online (via Eventbrite, highly recommended!) and at the door. As the event came closer we called, emailed, texted, and IMed friends to remind them to come out to the event. Turnout was pretty good, around 40 people.

The event went very smoothly. Dustin, Al, and I DJed and played a really pumped-up, top-notch selection of songs that had people dancing. It only took about 1-1.5 hours for everyone to arrive and the dancing to start. Once a few people started dancing it really kicked off and everyone had a great time.

In the past few weeks we DJed three dances at DSA. First, we DJed the 8th grade semiformal dance. This was a fun dance; all the 8th graders were dressed up and had a good time dancing. Next, this past Friday we DJed two back to back dances which were fundraisers for the athletic booster club. The middle school dance was first, followed by a break and then the high school dance. Both dances celebrated the end of the school year and I think the students enjoyed the chance to spend time with their friends before the summer.

Here’s a photo of our setup on Friday (sorry it’s blurry):

This past week, we DJed a sweet 16 party. The party was held in the beautiful Page-Walker Arts & History Center. Right around the corner from Town Hall in Cary, this former hotel was built in 1868 by Allison Francis Page, founder of the Town of Cary. Now, the building serves as an arts & history center with offices, exhibits, classrooms, archives, and this nice room and courtyard:

We had a great time. It was a fun group of people and overall the party went really well. Here’s a photo of our setup (we did turn off the lights and once it got dark you could see the dance lights):
