Video: Senior center prom

Just a quick update and video from one of the events we DJed recently. On Friday we DJed a “senior prom” at a local senior center. Students from my school came to help out and interact with the guests.

We used our standard setup, but with no effect lights as the event was during the day with the room’s lights on. Our Behringer Eurolive powered speakers continued to perform well.

My favorite part was when the guests requested that we play Crank That by Soulja Boy. I think the event went well and everyone enjoyed themselves. Watch the video to see for yourself!

Video: How the lights work

This weekend Dustin decided to record a video explaining our lighting setup. It is a little technical towards the end, explaining how the system works and showing some closeup shots. We have four sound-activated lights, which you can also read about on our equipment page:

  • Chauvet Intimidator DMX Intelligent Scanner Light (two of these)
  • Chauvet Mini Line Dancer Effect Light
  • Eliminator Lighting E-145 Double Double Effect Light

These are set up on a t-bar stand. If you jump to around 4:00 in the video you can see what it looks like with all the lights on (but keep in mind this is in a bedroom, not a larger room).

We are very satisfied with all of the lights that we use and would recommend them to any DJ in the market. They provide a nice atmosphere and definitely fill the room with color at the events we DJ.

Video: STM dance

Here is an “event log” or “gig log”-type video that Dustin and I created that follows us throughout the night of the STM dance earlier this month. Quite a few mobile DJs have started filming gig logs and uploading them to YouTube, and we thought we might give it a shot.

So, without further ado, here is the first in many event log videos that we will upload to give you a better idea of what goes into DJ-ing a school dance and to show you how much fun we have (I created a similar video last year for a school project, which we will also upload later).

STM Dance 3.7.08

On Friday the Dynamic DJ crew headed out to STM to DJ the third dance of the year, the St. Patrick’s Day dance. We arrived and were greeted by a slew of enthusiastic students and staff. We arrived around 6:30PM and were all set up ready to go at 7:00 which was the time the dance started. The event was mostly populated by 6th & 7th graders. There was a very low turn out of 8th graders at this event. We were told that the 8th graders currently think they’re “too cool for school” because they are graduating this year.

The dance really got started at around 7:30 when mostly everyone who was coming was there. This was when we really started to play the jams.

New equipment

This is actually the first event that we used our new equipment which included 2 new full range PA cabinets (Behringer Eurolive B215A) and a new whopping 18″ subwoofer cabinet (Behringer Eurolive B1800X Pro). They worked absolutely great! We love them! They filled the gym with crystal clear sound which was absolutely amazing. The students seemed to enjoy the new equipment as well. We used our standard lighting tree which consists of two dance effect lights and two DMX intelligent lights.

Requests

We got many requests for a whole array of different songs. Most requests were for the Top 40 hits that are out now. We enjoy receiving requests as they give us a chance us to play what the audience wants to hear. At the same time, we use our best judgment as to whether each song is appropriate for the event.

Conclusion

Overall, we believe that everyone had a great time at the event including the students, staff, and parent chaperones. This is the last dance we will be doing at STM this year. Next year we will probably be asked back which is a great honor for us and especially for me because this is the middle school that I graduated from.
